Nerve Conduction Test / EMG
How to prepare for an NCV test.
It’s important for you to inform us if you have a pacemaker. The electrodes used in the NCV test may affect the electronic impulses of your medical device.
Stop using any lotions or oils on your skin a few days before the test. These creams can prevent the electrode from being properly placed on the skin. Fasting usually isn’t necessary, but you may be asked to avoid caffeine beforehand.
You must come in loose clothing. As the tight clothing make it difficult to access parts of your limbs.
What to expect during the test
During the nerve conduction study, nerve will be stimulated by a mild and brief electrical shock where you might feel tingling sensation or might have a little pain but it dont have any side effects.
The entire test may take 30 to 50 minutes. The sensation may be uncomfortable, but it typically isn’t painful that is unbearable.
If required we would perform elctromyography test. in which we use a small needle to access your muscle which might gives you a mild pain and makes uncomfortable.
